Home Firm News W&L Named to 2022 Best Law Firm List by U.S. News & World Report

Weitz & Luxenberg has been named on the list of the Best Law Firms in the United States for 2022 by U.S. News & World Report. Although the pandemic made firm operations particularly challenging, we were able to stay the course thanks to our teams of dedicated attorneys and support staff.

U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 rankings include over 8.2 million evaluations. More than 115,000 leading attorneys from more than 22,000 firms participated in the ranking process.

W&L Ranks Again Nationally and Regionally

In its evaluations, U.S. News & World Report considers law firms based on the varying types of litigation the firm handles. Firms are ranked both nationally and regionally.

Weitz & Luxenberg is honored to report that, once again, we ranked at the top tier in several categories:

Tier 1 National

  • Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions – Plaintiffs

Tier 1 Regional

New York City

  • Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions – Plaintiffs
  • Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs
  • Product Liability Litigation – Plaintiffs

New Jersey

  • Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions – Plaintiffs

Fighting for Our Clients

This Best Law Firm listing recognizes an essential aspect of Weitz & Luxenberg’s mission. Our firm was founded in the mid 1980s to help people harmed by the actions of others, often large corporations. These include pharmaceutical giants, medical device and consumer product manufacturers, and hazardous, industrial polluters. The firm’s most renowned achievement is our pioneering work for our clients in asbestos litigation.

We go after the big violators and have established coordinated legal teams to handle specific litigation practice areas. These include mesothelioma and asbestos exposure; defective drugs and medical devices; environmental pollution; dangerous consumer products; medical malpractice; and traumatic personal injury incidents.

About the Rankings

In addition to ranking firms nationally and regionally, U.S. News & World Report presents firms in one of three tiers.

Their announcement states, “Firms that received a tier designation reflect the highest level of respect a firm can earn among other leading lawyers and clients from the same communities and practice areas.” (1)

Best Law Firm Methodology Summary

To be evaluated for U.S. News & World Report’s annual list, “A firm must have at least one attorney who is recognized in the current edition of Best Lawyers in a ‘Best Law Firms’ ranked practice area/metro area.” (2)

Every January, the magazine emails submission packets to law firms across the country. These packets include a law firm survey, as well as instructions on how to contact clients and professional references whose input is included.

Both a firm’s clients and professional references receive a confidential survey by email. The survey addresses not only a firm’s expertise but also its responsiveness, cost-effectiveness, and civility. In addition, these contacts answer this all-important question: Would you refer another client to this firm?

U.S. News & World Report also collects data from Best Lawyers ballots. These ballots can be completed only by attorneys who are recognized currently by Best Lawyers. Many of our own attorneys are recognized individually annually.

For each firm, the magazine then combines all of the quantitative and qualitative data into an overall Best Law Firms score.

U.S. News & World Report Practice Areas

Rankings for practice areas are conducted both nationally and within 188 metro areas across the country.

The magazine’s 2022 Best Law Firms national rankings cover 75 practice areas. The magazine also covers as many as 127 practice areas on its metropolitan lists.

U.S. News & World Report Metro Areas

The magazine defines metropolitan areas by determining the population of eligible law firms geographically. Eight states have a high percentage of eligible law firms located in one huge metropolitan area.

Outside of those metropolitan areas, there are eligible law firms — but not enough to provide accurate results for a separate metro ranking. Instead, results are generated for the entire state. The states falling under this category are Alaska, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Utah.
