I was taught from a young age to stand up for those who cannot for themselves, to call out greed and wrongdoing, and to always seek justice. I’m proud of how I was raised — that’s why I’m passionate about matters of social justice and know there’s no fight that’s too big.
Tiffany R. Ellis has represented, among others, government entities and individuals against corporate wrongdoers, survivors of sexual abuse, and individuals injured or killed in motor vehicle crashes.
Currently, Ms. Ellis works as part of Weitz & Luxenberg’s opioid litigation team on behalf of nearly 60 Michigan cities and counties.
Ms. Ellis also represents survivors of rape and other sexual trauma against their attackers and the institutions that should have protected them.
Ms. Ellis has also worked on other consumer and victim protection matters under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, against negligent nursing homes, and on behalf of clients injured by defective medical products.
Ms. Ellis is an experienced advocate both in and outside of the courtroom. In 2018, she was part of a two-person trial team that secured a more than $4 million verdict on behalf of family who lost their husband and father in a trucking crash that could have been avoided.
Due in part to that verdict, Ms. Ellis was recognized as the “most outstanding young trial lawyer in the country” by her peers when she was presented with the 2018 F. Scott Baldwin Award. In October 2019, Ms. Ellis was selected as part of the “Up & Coming Lawyers” Class of 2019 by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
Ms. Ellis also holds a Masters in Law in Intellectual Property and Technology. She is accomplished in all stages of large scale discovery projects including crafting requests and negotiation, ESI protocols and searches, and document review management.
During law school, Ms. Ellis worked for a federal judge, an NGO in Ghana, West Africa, as a public defender in San Diego, and successfully contended in the nation’s preeminent trial competitions.
Immediately before law school Ms. Ellis was the Chief of Staff for the former New Jersey Office of the Child Advocate. In that role, she worked with a dedicated staff of 25 as the state’s watchdog over any state system that cared for children including foster care, juvenile justice, and behavioral health. She also served as a member of one of New Jersey’s child fatality review teams.
Before her work in state government, Ms. Ellis worked numerous political campaign cycles as an organizer, fundraiser, event planner, communications director, and campaign manager. Ms. Ellis started her career as a newspaper reporter.
Ms. Ellis is from the small thumb town of Capac, Michigan, and now lives in downtown Detroit. In her spare time she enjoys hanging out with her rescue dog, chasing adventures like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (2018 Summit), routing for Liverpool (YNWA), and finding any excuse she can to enjoy the Michigan outdoors.
