I believe in seeking justice for those who have been taken advantage of – and when I believe in something, I do not back down. I strive to make my clients feel safe, heard, and supported in standing up to those who have done them wrong.
Benjamin VanBarr joins the firm after spending his final year of law school as a law clerk at Weitz & Luxenberg. Now, he represents survivors of sex trafficking pursuing justice against corporations that turned a blind eye to their suffering in favor of profit.
Mr. VanBarr is a passionate advocate, particularly in the fight against human trafficking. He is a twice-published legal scholar on the subject and has shared insights as a panelist at a legal symposium dedicated to the intersection of trafficking and the opioid epidemic. Prior to law school, he was engaged in antitrafficking work in the nonprofit sector, including serving on an active antitrafficking taskforce and providing direct services to survivors.
While in law school, Mr. VanBarr served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Law in Society, as well as participating in both moot court and mock trial competitions. He provided pro bono student representation to clients through both the Immigration Appellate Advocacy Clinic and the Free Legal Aid Clinic. In addition, he served as a legal fellow to the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Energy and Commerce, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, and subsequently completed an externship in Judge Bernard A. Friedman’s chambers in the Eastern District of Michigan. He has also volunteered as a legal observer through the National Lawyers Guild.
Mr. VanBarr looks forward to taking an active role in his local legal community. With a passion for community service and strong connections to the Detroit nonprofit sector, he intends to continue to serve, both through direct assistance and leadership roles.
Benjamin VanBarr will be happy to review your case.
