I love the atmosphere at Weitz & Luxenberg. Some firms feel cold and sterile. Here, we know we’re making a real difference in people’s lives. We care about our clients and their families. That’s what drives us every day.”
Gabrielle Hughes is a member of Weitz & Luxenberg’s experienced team of mesothelioma and asbestos attorneys. Her primary focus is on asbestos exposure cases.
W&L is pleased Ms. Hughes decided to join our team of skilled litigators who work on behalf of victims of asbestos exposure across the country. So far, we have achieved more than $13 billion in verdicts and settlements for our clients.
“I’m excited to have been given the opportunity to work at Weitz & Luxenberg. There’s an incredible sense of teamwork here. Everyone is working together toward the same goal: to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients. A win for us is justice for our clients,” Ms. Hughes says.
I Like Helping People
“I always knew I like helping people. I definitely didn’t want to work for a large, faceless corporation,” Ms. Hughes points out.
“The idea of law school had been in my mind for a while. Growing up, I watched programs with lawyers, and I always liked the idea of being the person who would come in and save the day. Lawyers were quick and intelligent. Those programs made a real impression on me,” she adds.
“What really stuck with me, though, was a book I read for a college class. It was called ‘Just Mercy.’ The author is an attorney who dedicated himself to helping those who most need help. He talked about various cases he handled and the people he helped. That really resonated with me, and I knew law school was something I wanted to pursue.”
Gaining My Client’s Trust Is Number One
“Right after law school, I worked with the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, handling child welfare cases. Basically, I defended clients who couldn’t afford to hire their own legal representation,” Ms. Hughes explains.
“I managed multiple cases at one time and assisted families in navigating the legal system at a really difficult point in their lives. In some ways, the work I did is a lot like the work I do at Weitz & Luxenberg. We’re always working to help families,” she adds.
“The most important thing when reaching out to a client for the first time is gaining their trust. I want them to know they can trust me and they’re in good hands. I assure them they can contact me at any time with questions and concerns. What it comes down to is making sure our clients feel like they’ve really been considered. They’re not just another case.”
Recovering Just Compensation Is Our Hope
“Our clients are going through possibly the most challenging time in their lives. They’ve been dealt a terrible blow that shouldn’t happen to anyone. If companies had safeguarded our client’s health and welfare, a mesothelioma diagnosis didn’t have to happen,” Ms. Hughes continues.
“But I feel like the work I do is hopeful. At Weitz & Luxenberg, our team has the skills, knowledge, and experience to bring about a just outcome. We can do this — and we do do this — every day. Securing financial compensation can go a long way in helping our clients pay for the treatment and assistance they need. Our clients can rest more easily knowing that their families are being taken care of. We can see the real impact our work at Weitz & Luxenberg makes,” she emphasizes.
