Gennaro Savastano, an attorney in Weitz & Luxenberg’s Appellate Unit, has been selected as one of this year’s “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBT Bar Association. The award recognizes 40 LGBT legal professionals who have distinguished themselves professionally and demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBT equality.
Mr. Savastano joined Weitz & Luxenberg in 2013 and defends the firm’s verdicts in appellate court, focusing on mesothelioma, asbestos, personal injury, and malpractice cases. In March 2017, Mr. Savastano was elected President of the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York.
“It’s an honor to receive this award, and I congratulate all of the attorneys who were recognized for their hard work and dedication to LGBT rights,” said Mr. Savastano. “Weitz & Luxenberg has been a great supporter of LeGaL and the LGBT community, and I look forward to continuing our important work.”
“This is a fabulous and much-deserved honor for Gennaro who is known to be a fierce advocate for LGBTQ New Yorkers,” said LeGaL Executive Director Eric Lesh in a statement announcing the awards. “Gennaro has dedicated himself to promoting justice in and through the legal profession. It is a thrill and an honor to work side-by-side with him at LeGaL.”
Before joining the firm, Mr. Savastano was a senior appellate attorney for the New York State Supreme Court’s Appellate Division in its First Judicial Department, which has jurisdiction over New York and Bronx counties. While attending Touro Law School, he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review, founded the LGBT student group, and published articles advocating for LGBT rights.
The National LGBT Bar Association will honor this year’s awardees at the 30th Annual Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair, held August 8-10 in New York City.
