He has successfully pioneered litigations in various fields and is a skilled negotiator and legal lecturer. Mr. Weitz is the firm's principal settlement negotiator, having resolved thousands of cases for hundreds of millions of dollars. Mr. Weitz has served a court-appointed liaison counsel for New York City and Federal asbestos litigation, New York State and Federal breast implant litigation, and New York State DES litigation. Mr. Weitz has been appointed class counsel in the country's largest asbestos bankruptcy proceedings, including being appointed Present Claimants' Class Counsel in the Johns- Manville limited fund class action by the Hon. Jack B. Weinstein of the Eastern District of New York. He currently serves as either chairman or member of many asbestos litigation bankruptcy-related Trust Advisory Committees.

Mr. Weitz chairs the Tort Section of the New York County Lawyers Association, and is on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. He is a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Mr. Weitz is active philanthropically and serves on the Board of Trustees of North Shore University Hospital, the Dean's Counsel of Hofstra University Law School, the Legal Aid Society, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Men's Division of the Children's Medical Fund (affiliated with Schneider Children's Hospital) and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
