Perry Weitz is the founding senior partner of the nationally renowned tort law firm Weitz & Luxenberg, based in New York City, and acknowledged as one of the country's foremost asbestos, pharmaceutical, environmental, and products liability attorneys and consumer advocates. He has successfully pioneered litigations in various fields and is a skilled negotiator and legal lecturer. The National Law Journal has listed Weitz & Luxenberg as one of the most dynamic and fastest growing litigation firms in the country and in 2003 The American Lawyer named Mr. Weitz as one of the nation's top 45 youngest and most accomplished lawyers. Recently, the National Law Journal also listed Weitz & Luxenberg as a premier member of the "Plaintiffs' Hot List" of leading litigation firms. Mr. Weitz has been accorded "Best Lawyer" and "Super Lawyer" recognition for every year of these programs' existence.
Mr. Weitz is the firm's principal settlement negotiator, having resolved thousands of cases for hundreds of millions of dollars. Under Mr. Weitz's personal direction the firm has settled thousands of asbestos cases and has prosecuted numerous national mass tort actions such as DES, Silicone Breast Implants, Vioxx, Baycol, Zyprexa, Rezulin and Seroquel. The firm has an ever-enlarging environmental tort practice, and Mr. Weitz's efforts in securing a $424 million settlement in the MTBE gasoline additive litigation earned him a nomination as Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Public Justice Foundation. Mr. Weitz has personally tried numerous cases to verdict, obtaining several multi-million dollar jury verdicts in many landmark trials.
Mr. Weitz has served a court-appointed liaison counsel for New York City and Federal asbestos litigation, New York State and Federal breast implant litigation, and New York State DES litigation. Mr. Weitz has been appointed class counsel in the country's largest asbestos bankruptcy proceedings, including being appointed Present Claimants' Class Counsel in the Johns- Manville limited fund class action by the Hon. Jack B. Weinstein of the Eastern District of New York. He currently serves as either chairman or member of many asbestos litigation bankruptcy-related Trust Advisory Committees.
Mr. Weitz chairs the Tort Section of the New York County Lawyers Association, and is on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. He is a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Mr. Weitz is active philanthropically and serves on the Board of Trustees of North Shore University Hospital, the Dean's Counsel of Hofstra University Law School, the Legal Aid Society, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Men's Division of the Children's Medical Fund (affiliated with Schneider Children's Hospital) and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
